For implementing ISO systems to achieve excellent performances, whether as per ISO 45001 or ISO 14001 or any other ISO system, we are required to carryout risk assessment on external issues, internal issues or interested parties needs and expectations. Method of risk assessment that is used for activities is very different than what can be used for external and internal issues or interested parties’ concerns.
SWIFT is a high-level risk identification technique that can be used independently. SWIFT uses structured brainstorming in a facilitated workshop where a predetermined prompts are elicited from participants that often begin with phrases such as “what if?” or “how could?”. It is like HAZOP but applied at a system or subsystem rather than on the designer’s intent.
SWIFT (structured what is technique) is most suitable for carrying out risk assessment on – external and internal issues as well as interested parties needs and expectations. A template for the same is developed for use, and provided here for downloading.
